Clicker Training Step 5 "Answer"

Go into a simple training as a trial.You need no special tool besides your clicker and rewards-box today.

When your bird calles you,give him a reward after a click.If you make so several times,he must understand causal relation between his call and reward.

Now,next step.When your bird tries to call you,call your bird's name before he calles you.If your bird answeres you after your call,give him a click and reward.Make it several times.

In 2. step of this training it's important that you give no reward for his call without your call.When your bird call you,though you don't call him,you should disregard it.If you react him in this case,you would be always annoyed by his calling.Your bird must understand when he may call you.It's important also out of the training that you keep the initiative in calling.

But your bird might call you for the emergency.You should be flexibｌe for your bird's call.

Clicker Training Step 4 "Teach the casual relation"

When your bird understand that the rewards-box gives him the favorite,then you should teach him the casual relation between click and reward.It's a basic clicker training for all tricks.Your cockatiel is begining now finally into clicker traning.

When your bird is hungry,give him a click with your clicker and then slide the cover of box to give him the feed.If your bird have a bite,close the cover.A click will meen "Good" in the training later.Train your bird in this way little by little until he understand the causal relation.

By the way,you can't teach your bird "bad" with clicker.You can take only positive method with clicker.If your bird make a mistake,you should simply ignore it.Your interest for him can be a reward for him.If you ignore a act of him,he must lose interest for the act.At least Disregard doesn't promote it.Your bird will try and error to get the reward.If your bird show desireble act,give him the reward to strengthen the desireble tendency.

Your bird might fears the clicker or it's sound.But he will become accustomed to it in the training.Your bird might be stressfull in the cause of those.As a temporaly method for such a case,you can make clicks behind you to reduce the sound and to conceal the clicker from his eyes.In this case you can make a click before him,after he becomes accustomed to sound of click enough.

In the training you shouldn't encourage your bird without his sucsess.It might confuse him.Your encorage can be a reward for him.If you encourage him,he might misunderstand a process as a sucsess.If he succeeded,you may praise him.

In the case that your bird doesn't understand click,you may go into a concrete Training for trick.He understand at least rewards-box.He might learn the causal relation in the training for trick.

Clicker Training Step 3 "Introduce the Rewards-box"

Without introducing your rewards-box your cockatiel might be anxious in the training.I believe that a cockatiel is a cautious parrot also as a companion animal.My cockatiels avoid strange things.But when they become familiar with those and they understand those harmlessness,they would fear those no longer.



When you find your cockatiel hungry,after putting your cockatiel's favorite feed in the box,show him your rewards-box and slide the cover.He must understand that the box has good food for him,even if he runs away from it.I interested my cockatiel to the box with picking the seeds there and saying "Mmm,it tasts good!".He wandered around the box in the conflict between anxiety and desire.But I cannot win my end at first time.I often showed the box in the following days.On a day he finally extended his neck on the feed slowly to eat it.Once your bird eat the feed in the box,his anxiety is almost lost.You might be patient from the start.You shouldn't give strong stress to your bird.You should show the box to your bird in this training only a few minutes for a time.

Clicker Training Step 2 "Rewads-box"

I'm talking to you about Rewards-box today.
You don't absolutly need a box for giving rewards.You can give rewards to your bird with your hand.But if you have a small box for rewards,it must make clicker training more comfortable.Some Seeds are too small to give your bird them with your finger easy.You can give also quick them rewards with a small box .Rewards should be so quick given after a sucsessful action that your bird understand causial relation between trick and reward.

Look at the Picture above.The metal box there is one only for rewards in clicker training.It must be not easy to find a rewards-box for training.Actually I found it only in a shop.In the case,that you would find a rewards-box nowhere,you can take a small box with sliding cover arround you like a match-box or hairpin-box.Sliding cover make it easy and confortable to give your birds rewards.If possible,a hard box is preferable to soft one like a mutch-box,because the parott has so strong nibs to destroy woods.Moreover you weaken the box little by little,whenever you slide the cover.

Clicker Training Step 1 "Find a clicker!"

I'm talking to you about process of clicker training from this time.The article today is on clicker for training.

You can find a few art of clicker in a large pet shop or a shop,which specializes in goods for dogs.You can take a clicker for dogs for training for cockatiels. Clickers must have difference in the size.I think that you should take a small one for your cockatiel,because a large clicker for dog might make your cockatiels anxious with loud click.Look at the picture above.Yellow one is may clicker.This size is suitable for cockatiels.Cockatiels are smaller and cautiouser as other parrots.But you can take any clicker for cockatiel when you have no other choice.I meen simply that smaller one is better than lager one.

When you find no clicker in shops,you can take a pen with clicker on the head,instead of the clicker for animals.Take a look at the picture above.My hand grips a pen there,which is suitable for clicker training.I think,a click of pen is not so loud that your cockatiel will be not suprised by the click.A shorter pen is confortable for clicker training.
